This project, Japan, IN, Started 6 years ago, when my travels in Japan ended and my life in Japan began.
It is a deep personal dive to the people, places and my life.
Yet it is quiet exploration. As time, names, places and even myself - are not a factor to dwell about in here.
But quite the opposite.
Throughout my time living in Japan and capturing it in photographs, I discovered that beauty does not necessarily lay in what is shown within the frame, but rather in what remains empty.
Or shortly - “Wabi”
*While I am a long-time student of the Japanese arts - such as gardening, tea ceremony, pottery, shakuhachi and Aizome, I still find it a challenge to lecture on the concept of Wabi: its inherent beauty and the various ways of expressing it.
